Being Thankful

I have some friends who have a habit called Thankful Thursday. Every week when Thursday rolls around, they make a list of things they are thankful for. I love this weekly habit. Yes, I know we should be thankful every day. It is nice to share this day with my friends every week. It is neat to see the things they are thankful for. Sometimes it is hard for us to make those lists, but I find that it is good for our perspective on life. Sometimes it does feel like the world is against us. Yes, that feeling can happen. I also think it is true that things can always be worse. There are always people somewhere who are going through something worse. It is good to get some perspective on life.
I think it's good to face the reality that sometimes our problems are just plain simple annoyances compared to the huge real problems some people have. It is also good to realize that some of our problems really are huge, and that there will always be people who don't get it and won't help you or empathize with you. That's what makes something like Thankful Thursday such an important habit. I think making a habit of being thankful helps us to keep a good outlook on life. It also helps us look outward and not always just think of ourselves and our problems.

Rainy Monday Colors & Textures

It is back to school time for the kids, and I wanted to share a few things I've been working on. I love all the colors and textures. Family members have gifted me with some beautiful yarns, and I have been loving playing with them.

Here's a couple of pics of what the kittens have been doing lately. I didn't stage these. My kittens really love hiding in my yarn and in my baskets from the farmers market. 

Here are my babies on their first day back to school.

Talon is 6 and is in first grade.

Eliana is 9 and is in 4th grade.

Natasha is 12 and is in 7th grade.

Sweet Mom Surprises

My mom is really sweet. It is my daughter's birthday this weekend. She'll be 12. In addition to getting my daughter a birthday gift, my mom got me one, too. Thanks, Mom, for the dishcloth pattern book. I love it. While we were still at my Mom and Dad's house I worked on these 2 dishcloths from my new pattern book. I love the texture and designs of these dishcloths. My mom's kitchen table is a great place to take pictures, as it has beautiful natural light.

Random Thoughts & Questions...

• I like being a morning person. I like the cool morning air. I like morning birds singing. I like the dark morning sky, knowing that it will brighten as the sun comes up. 
• Why can't I find an emery board when I need one?
• Also, it dawned on me the other day that maybe Solomon wasn't so wise. I mean....like that dude married how many women? and had how many concubines? Doesn't sound very smart to me. It also reminds me that we are all fallible. I mean, God can make you the wisest guy or girl in the whole world and you can still do things dumb enough to qualify you for the next set of Darwin awards. If you want to possibly laugh or cry and waste lots of time reading about other people's mistakes, go here to the Darwin Awards site.
• I am pretty sure Jesus was a good guy and liked kids. I can't picture Him hitting kids or beating kids or not feeding kids or sexually abusing kids.
• Even God got frustrated with His "kids" (the people He made) in the Old Testament. He even wanted to kill them a time or two, but people like Moses talked Him out of it. Makes me feel not so bad about getting frustrated with my kids. Also, it makes me think that I am more like God than I thought. Think about it.....even God got frustrated and angry with His kids.
• Why is it ok for people to discard some stuff in the Old Testament that God seemingly didn't have a problem with, like slavery and polygamy while society in general has ruled that those things aren't so great? Why was God seemingly silent on this stuff? I think slavery is bad and marrying lots of people sounds like a bad idea, too. Why do people pick and choose Old Testament stuff to discard and other weird stuff to keep? Like spanking kids? I think hitting kids is not cool. Not in the name of God or otherwise. I think it should go by the wayside like slavery, polygamy, not killing people with stones.....stuff like that. 
• Also, I think war is bad, and killing people is not so great. I am even against killing people who do things bad enough to go to prison.
• I am not against killing bugs and spiders that surprise me in my house. 
• I think all people are worth listening to and loving.
• I love making lists with bullets.
• Fluffy purring kittens make lots of things better. Unless you are allergic to cats.....then holding fluffy purring kittens would be a bad idea.
• I plan to play Kings in the Corner with my kids today....with pennies. Ooooh, too bad you can't be here, too.
• Here is a random picture of new cotton yarn I got this week. Yay!! New yarn!!
• I am pretty sure my kids are going to love me today, since I went to Dunkin Donuts to get them a surprise breakfast before they woke up.

Lady Hurricane & Fluffy Tornado

I don't know if it's a good thing or a bad thing that my kids named our new kittens Lady Hurricane and Fluffy Tornado. Hopefully they won't turn out to be natural disasters, right?
